Great Start for a SciFi Series!!
The book checks off several of my favorite sci-fi concepts: intelligent aliens, interesting AI constructs, and the philosophical and ethical arguments that would naturally arise when near future humans venture into the galaxy There is a lot of world building done with breakdowns of current technology, military, and politics, but I didn't find that overly tedious. The only thing that did get a little tiresome was the descriptions of some of the actions that seemed superfluous to moving the story along. That's a purely personal gripe, however, as I'm sure that some others would appreciate the attention to detail. Overall, it's an AMAZING introduction to this world, and I'm excited to start the second book! Highly recommended!

This is rather complex, interesting, albeit not convoluted story. Pace is rather quick, and drawn between culminations and plateaus skillfully. What I like the most is the story is told continuosly, and narrative is not jumping back and forth in time. This makes it a quick read, and the story is easy to follow. World building is engaging an well executed. It doesn't skip the action parts, and they are put in enough details to satisfy reader that likes the details, but not too much. Action serves the purpose of showing characters' capabilities, emotions and attitude. What I did not like, is the approachable appearance and attitude of the 1st aliens met. However, I admit it's doing what it's supposed to do, given the role that those aliens play, and their attitude towards humans. Highly recommended!
