Quick Update

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. My apologies.

I’ve begun a new job that has taken a lot out of me as I get up to speed. I’m spending a lot of time remote, away from the family, which is something that has been less-than-optimal, but necessary. Playing the long game, if all my plans work out, I’ll be able to retire sooner rather than later, and devote my time to writing. However, as Gunnery Sergeant Dixon would tell me, “the enemy makes plans too".

Ms. Santomasso is supposed to be done recording this week on Severant, at which time I’ll binge listen to it in order to get corrections to her so that, hopefully, by mid July, Book 4 will be released by Audible. It’s longer than I had hoped, but again, the enemy makes plans, too.

Interestingly, for those of you who want to send me email about how you’re waiting for Book 4 on Audible, there is no greater advocate than my wife - who has not read Book 4, because she only listens to books. So every week I get a “Is it done yet?” badgering.

In the meantime, I’m developing plot outlines on Book 5.

I have a hypothetical title for it, but it needs more consideration before I can share. The way I usually do this is to take the series timeline (how I want the entire series to go) and flesh out the timelines of the multiple plots running concurrently. This is always the hardest part, giving specific detail to the story without breaking past lore, without developing too many “side quests” and without altering the future path of the series timeline.

I wish I could tell you it was more science than art, but alas, it is not.

As you all know, I like writing highly detailed prose - which has earned me some criticism in reviews, but I believe the preponderance of SciFi - true SciFi - fans appreciate that. Maybe I’m wrong. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time. Anyway, I apologize for the time between updates this round, but until the writing pays the bills, the real job takes precedence. Soon, I hope.
